This dual-district structure means school assignments vary by neighborhood. Recreation is a defining feature. O'Neill Regional Park borders the community and offers camping, trails, and open space, while the city's own parks, sports fields, and the SAMLARC lake provide day-to-day recreation. The 241 toll road connects Rancho Santa Margarita to the rest of Orange County and the I-5 corridor, positioning the city as a quieter, nature-oriented alternative within one of Southern California's most desirable suburban regions.
